India is gearing up for a long Test season after a six-month hiatus, with a two-match series against Bangladesh kicking off in Chennai on September 19. While India has been dominant at home, losing only four Tests in the past decade, Bangladesh is confident after recent milestones, including historic Test wins against New Zealand and Pakistan. Although India remains strong, especially sitting atop the World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a 68.52% win percentage, rust from the break could be a factor. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant are all returning to Test action, with Pant set for a highly anticipated comeback following his 2022 car accident.

Bangladesh is eyeing another upset, banking on the spin trio of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shakib Al Hasan, and Taijul Islam to exploit India’s recent struggles against spin. Mehidy has been particularly impressive, leading Bangladesh in both runs and wickets during the current WTC cycle. India will also likely opt for a spin-heavy attack, with R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav expected to play key roles alongside fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. KL Rahul is set to return, replacing Sarfaraz Khan in the middle order, while Pant will likely reclaim the wicketkeeping duties.

Bangladesh, having only eight overseas Test wins in 67 attempts, will rely heavily on their improved form since 2021, with four of those victories coming during this period. The Chennai pitch is expected to favor spinners as it breaks down under intense heat, with temperatures forecasted to be in the mid-to-high 30s Celsius.

Key players to watch include Rishabh Pant, who averages 77.16 against spin in India, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, poised for a major impact in both batting and bowling. India remains the overwhelming favorite, but Bangladesh is determined to challenge them on their home turf.

The 1st Test match will be telecast live on Sports18 and Colors Cineplex TV channels. It will start at 9.30 am.
